How do I make a gift in honor of or in memory of someone?
Any gift to Union may be done in honor or memory of someone. When making your gift be sure to indicate the name and any other pertinent information of the person being remembered. Also click here for additional ways to honor someone.

Is my gift tax deductible?
Yes, charitable gifts to Union College are tax-deductible and may qualify for tax-deduction in accordance with IRS regulations during the calendar year that you make your gift. Consult your financial planner or tax adviser to determine the exact tax advantages you may receive.

Yes, tax receipts are processed within two business days of when the gift is received.

What is a planned or deferred gift?
Planned, estate or deferred gifts as they are often called include trusts, gift annuities, and bequests. All types of planned gifts provide considerable tax advantages for the donors. What is an endowed fund?
Endowed funds, such as an endowed award or scholarship are invested by the College to generate annual income in perpetuity. Endowed scholarships are created with a minimum $10,000 gift. The principle is invested and the annual spending policy is set annually by the Union College Board of Trustees. All remaining funds are added back to the endowment so that it continues to grow and to provide future funding for the program designated by the donor. Donors can assist in the design of the purpose and selection criteria of the award or scholarship recipient/s. Endowed funds can be named to honor or memorialize someone of the donor’s choosing.

What is Union’s endowed fund spending policy?
The target annual distribution rate is reviewed annually by the Union College Board of Trustees. The average market value of each fund will be based on the average market values of the fund at fiscal year-end for the preceding three years. Excess will be reinvested into the endowment.
